Why do you suppose... ?
... that when you die you see your life from beginning to end, unfold like a movie
Is spirit/higher self, reflecting on it's experiences in the life that has been ?

Sounds good to me.... You get integrated into a brain or mind that is very powerful at processing things. So it processes the memories from your life very quickly.

According to the OBE experience of Anita Moorjani (youtube), when you cross into the afterlife you not only review your life but you also experience how you affected others, you live through what their feelings were when or if you offended them. |

That's right, you see your good and your bad - and how it affected others, for better or worse. And from that you learn.
Mind you, it would be wise to employ the same practice whilst here on earth and consider how one's words and actions are likely to impact on the people on the receiving end...
If someone is kind to you, you never forget it and similarly if they are unkind to you you never forget it. A reminder, if one be needed, that what we say and do can cast a long shadow....

Some suggest it is because ego consciousness is fearful of [its] 'perceived' death, and wants to 'cling' to [its] past ... maybe it will try anything to keep the dream alive lol ...

This works for me. It was like that when my mum passed... there were memories and other strange things going through my head, almost like she was fast forwarded and/or rewinding.

After death you are no longer fixed at one point in time, with past and future on either side. You see all time from the beginning to the end, this is why you see your whole life almost as a snapshot laid out in front of you. When you see the bigger picture for the first time you see how everything came together in your life and those you affected. The same with NDEs before you return to your single time point again
