Can you elaborate on the holding hands part?

to be numb and "detached" from emotional involvement with your own
self is much worse than to be sad or despondent in most ways, imo.
if you can feel sad, at least you still know you have feelings, and you
can imagine that there exists a level of happiness which matches the
strength of the sadness... and that it's available to be experienced if
you can just figure out how. to be numbed may lead a person to believe
that their emotional receptors have become 'calcified' or deadened...
perhaps with no remedy available [there's always a way however,
while the blood still flows and breaths are drawn].
the holding hands image is relating to you working in partnership
with your own 'inner wisdom', which desires nothing more than
your happiness, and has instinctive knowledge of how to lead you
to living joyously. i'd like to suggest that you do some meditation
exercises, and imagine that your 'soulmate' exists within your
heart. commune with him there, within your meditations, and
get a sense of what activities he'd recommend for you to
engage in. with some practice, you might be able to reliably
conjure up that inspirational influence at a moments notice,
and ask him for advice when you're choosing between options
during your day. i believe that if you follow the directions
provided to you from within your own heart, you'll find yourself
feeling progressively more happy with each passing day. the
point is to set your mind into the service of your heart, and to
not set your heart into serving the whims of your mind. the
head can become too serious, and insist that things must be
a particular way, no matter how it feels (often claiming that
happiness will come about later). the heart isn't bound by
doctrines of logic, and it can permit sillinesses which may
seem non-productive, but are actually fun things to do.
it's said that the path towards joy is one which has happiness
along the way... the mind seems prone to denying that fact.
