It is difficult to cut back on something which a person has adjusted to from their youth. Though, I'm no longer very concerned if I go without milk for a few days. I wait until I get to a store that still sells it for under a certain amount. I resist buying it at the higher prices, considering the negative information about it.
I heard or read in the News recently also, how the Milk industry wanted to include aspertane in their product, to sweeten it, to make it more desirable or even addictive to people. But, the petition was denied by the FDA.
Then, also, regarding Eggs, there is the iconic picture of "Rocky" breaking multiple eggs in a glass, raw, and downing it.

It is partly an addiction as well.
There are morphine-like substances in dairy, they are called Casomorphins which is a natural opioid in Casein a cow makes. The morphine in dairy is for the calf. When a calf drinks milk, it will calm down and feel sleepy because of the casomorphin. It will also strengthen the bond between the calf and the cow. This is why people are feeling "good" after eating dairy, especially cheese because it consists of concentrated casein.
So when someone quits dairy, there maybe withdrawal symptoms. Now that I don't eat dairy, my mind is a lot clearer than before. Less foggy.
I have found vegan cheese substitutes that taste exactly the same. These days there is no valid reason to keep consuming dairy at all.

I don't think dairy is that brilliant for us either. But it is very 'pushed' in the mainstream. That you have to eat /drink dairy!
I haven't used milk, eaten yogurt, cream, etc since 1981
But I found butter hard to give up when I became vegan, Very hard! I only did it for compassionate reasons, otherwise I would NEVER have gone anywhere near any margarine. I hate it. There isn't one I've found yet that tastes even half way decent. (suggestions please...??)
Cheese, surprisingly, wasn't hard to give up. Yes there are some nice vegan cheeses. The only thing is they do not have the equivalent protein or calcium of cow's milk cheese, so don't rely on them for that.
There are many good vegan sources of calcium. But one would have to eat large quantities of those foods in some cases to get the recommended daily amount. So a supplement helps. Find out what the recommended calcium intake is for your age etc. Because I am an old bat I need more.....lol

I haven't had dairy in 24 years and have never missed it. How can you miss something that is produced from torture and cruelty?
Tobi, I really like Earth Balance "margarine" and Canoleo. I can't eat regular grocery store margarines. They taste like the chemicals they are (nasty).
Morpheus, I went veg literally overnight in my late 30s. It's easy to stop a lifetime of eating a certain way when you know the truth. Things are only hard because we believe they're hard.
And since when are eggs considered dairy??!

Lots of healthy plant milk alternatives available ...
Soya ... oat ... almond ... rice ... hazelnut ... hemp ... coconut - and one or two others.

I've finally gotten on the vegan bandwagon and given up dairy and eggs. Occasionally, however, I will end up eating some milk products or eggs in baked goods or similar prepared foods where they aren't obvious.
