Sage--from grocery store

Hi all,

I wanted to buy some sage to burn,and our local spiritual shop prices them rather expensive. The supermarket near by home charges much less for it. Has anyone used grocery store sage?

Also, when you use/burn sage for home cleansing purposes, do you feel an instant difference? I have never done it before.

Many people use sage bundles for smudging. I can't see any harm in using fresh sage, if you use a fireproof container. Are you planning to buy dried sage leaves? Those are pretty expensive at the market. Have you looked on Amazon, for inexpensive sage bundles? Why not buy a pot of sage, find a sunny window, and grow your own? You can feel a difference in a room's energy right away, if you burn sage.

The stuff at the spiritual shops are usually not completely dry which causes them to smoke more and burn longer. The dry stuff will burn too fast. Also, the burning sage is white sage and I don't know that the cooking kind is the same.

There are good deals on sage on Amazon though.

When I first started saging I didn't notice immediate relief. Mostly because the reason I started saging was because of increased spirit activity in my home that had me a little on edge. Eventually I was able to convince myself that if the sage didn't get rid of the spirit is must not be a bad one. Also, make sure you are focusing your energy on purifying your space. The energy you are generating when you cleanse is very important.

White sage is great for clearing out negative energy. However the intent during the smudging is the most important part in my opinion. Yes many new age stores do charge a good bit for a bundle of sage. That's why I'm always looking for deals on ebay, as I go through a lot of the stuff. White Sage (Salvia apiana) is a slightly different type than Garden Sage (Salvia officinalis) There are many types, all smell similar, but are used for different things. There's some info. here:

I have wanted to sage my home for some time now. I don't feel threatened my any thing here. However a young boy died from an accidental gunshot in our home prior to us purchasing it. (unknown to us until months after moving in). the reason I haven't saged yet is
1. Im afraid of making the good spirits leave. I feel my grandfather, my father in law and my husbands grandfather visit often. I want them to feel welcome.
2. Im TERRIFIED I could open a portal to other entities.
Are these fears legit?

When you smudge you always try to work with a clear mind. Set your intention that the sage smoke will remove any negative energy. It shouldn't effect any positive spirits or beings. Why would smudging open a portal to other entities? I haven't heard of that one yet. One thing that will cause portals to to be opened in your home is fear, fear of portal and entities. There is no reason to fear these things though. There are all sorts of entities all over the place, homes, malls, restaurants, you name it. The things is most people do not open that area of their consciousness in order to sense, hear, or see them. They were there before you came into this incarnation and will be around long after you leave the earth plane once again. It's just a part of life and energy. There is no reason to focus on or fear them though.
