I'm trying to learn about the ideas of consciousness creating reality and how it ties into the ideas of parallel universes, can anyone recommend where to find information on this

I second this one:
My Big TOE - Tom Campbell
It is free on google books:
https://books.google.co.in/books?id=...sC&redir_esc=y
Essentially, there is no difference between consciousness and reality (they are not two separate things) and there are no parallel universes (thats a materialist point of view, just a theory). But there are non-physical "areas" in consciousness, our physical universe being a tiny part of it all.

Consciousness is termed as a state of awareness or alertness for any circumstance.

Consciousness is not an effect but a principle. It is a quality which is extra universal in nature. But it is of a variable nature. The higher we go in spiritual livingness the more pronounced, meaningful and profound it is found to be. There are many benchmarks along the way. One very important one from our viewpoint as human beings is a marker which describes a threshold of "self". The higher than human lives are less concerned with this though. in their realms of livingness "will" (of the many) is of paramount importance.
Where does consciousness come from? It comes from the highest, the very highest spiritual realms. These are so very high from our perspective that time has slowed to nothingness. Eternity is NOT an endless flow of time. Rather it is an existence in which there is no time at all. This is the timeless of the creator who some of us call God. No matter. This part is important. When we arrive in this condition we find that consciousness is infinite. Compare this to the very lowest life forms on a planet. Consider a lump of basalt. Look closely and discover that it, too, is conscious but not very. See? Consciousness is a universal principle which is variable in nature. It is not the result of anything but a principal which is all pervasive.
In other universes we will find that consciousness is constant. It is the same no matter where we look. This is because, as I said in the first sentence, consciousness is a principle which means that it is not subject to or dependent upon the variables of time and space.
Consciousness is the fingerprint of the spiritual realms. If there were no spiritual realms there would be no consciousness at all. Understand, realize this and move forward a notch or two on the evolutionary scale. When material universes are created consciousness is the one primary quantity which is transferred from spirit to matter. It is the livingness of all that we observe.
Now back to your statement/question. Consciousness is not a creative force. Mind is responsible for that, through the agency of will. Those who create use their minds in this work. Mind is applied to spiritual "matter" resulting in "forms", all sorts of forms, which are conscious according to their positioning. It is wonderfully simple and elegant. Again parallel universes are fully infused with consciousnesses, each type of form to it's own.
Consciousness is an all pervasive quality. Consciousness does not create. May I suggest that you engage in a full study of mind and it's child... will. Here are the forces which you seek to understand.
