newbie kind of, just a few questions

This experience is referred to as "crossing the Veil or Hedge" and involves spiritual travel. You must have someone looking after you while you travel. Think of it as opening a doorway to another realm - Underworld in pagan terms - doorways give access from both directions. Not all the "others" are ancestral spirits, Nature Spirits also exist in Underworld and they are part of raw, primal nature - mostly amicable if honoured but some can play quite rough, not in a nasty way especially but in a mischevous way. Our ancestors always made offerings to these Nature Spirits in the Wild Wood to beg their good graces.
My experiences were about previous lives. I live in a very ancient city which was once a garrison city for the Roman Army and they built many roads there. I was part of the garrison. When I walk on the Roman roads, I sense others around me and I "hear" the stamp of military boots and the rattle of weapons harnesses.
The first Samhain experience, I sensed someone sat behind me in the ring and I knew exactly who it was - an old comrade who I fought beside 18 centuries back. The following year, similar except the sense was much stronger then he rested his arm across my shoulders for a while. I felt very sad that my old comrades had gone on without me and I wanted to join them. Took a long time to come down from that. I am looking forward to this Samhain. So, I was lucky. I made contact with a friend but it could just as easily be otherwise.

Thats amazing! So what potentially could go wrong with this?

"I wanted to join them" - meaning I didn't want to come back, the others had to spend time making sure I did return.

I Can see how that would be problematic!
