Yes--and this method of slicing the Apple between stem and end (revealing the Pentacle) is (also) considered a portal.
You can place a whole Bay Laurel Leaf over the Pentagram (at the center of the Pentacle) and fix it with a wooden toothpick--then bury one half at each of the Cardinal Points of your property at Dusk on Samhain. You have just sealed the boundaries of your property against unwanted visitors--until the next Samhain.
