Hello OP. It looks like there are many goals to meditations. It depends on the type and where its from. Some people meditate on calm and insight. These are two states that people try to attain. Others include meditating on a god or goddess. Attainment of Enlightenment in Buddhism is involved in meditation as well. Meditating on transcendence is another common onel. Hope this has instructed a little.

I have always used it to get into a calmer state.
Intuitively, about 30 years ago I used to do this with a Christian mantra...

"Jesus Christ (Inhale)
Have Mercy " (Exhale)

I have taught some how to use breathing, imagery and progressive muscle relaxation. All vary and I think some individuals benefit from one more than another.

When you meditate, you practice staying calm and finding balance within yourself.

It's also about training the mind to focus and guide thoughts.

Some people meditate to use the power of their mind for improving their physical body, while others meditate to attract various goals.

Because meditation is a good chance for our body and mind to be calm, it has a lot of benefits for our physical body and our mental/emotional well-being (by balancing chakras).

The best thing to do at the beginning of each meditation is to focus on our breathing, because this is the best way to stay in the present moment.

The most important part of meditation is to set an intention at the beginning or before you start.

For instance, you can say: my intention is that this meditation brings me a sense of inner peace and clarity of mind.

Best,
Sami
