What a great thread. And not because it is unfolding as it should but because two (or more) unique individuals took the original story and 'saw' it in totally different ways, each of which has its own 'story' to tell. And the op's responses have yet another story to tell...fantastic.

You have an interesting perspective on things.
I generally call it Living in La La Land...

I'm sorry you have never encountered an Enlightened being
and don't believe there is such a thing

However once again
and for the last time
the story was not written with the sole intent of Pleasing you and keeping your fears at bay...

IN the story the Master was Enlightened..

Even though that makes you uncomfortable and you are having such a difficult time accepting it...

The story was so very simple
you attempt with every thought to make it something that it is not

Why not relax a little in your life

why not accept things as they are and stop trying to mould the world to fit a description you are comfortable with

Let it Be......

You will never find contentment if you are always insisting on changing what is

to what you can feel more comfortable with


The Master WAS Enlightened..

What about this is so hard for you?

There are Enlightened Souls

in fact your soul knows this very well


so why do you fight it

what is it you are so afraid to face...

Consider these things deeply

and grow

stop responding so quickly from your Ego

The whole world is not out to get you

it's actually here to complete you

if you allow it

but as long as you deny the simple truths of life

you will be disconnected from that part of yourself that brings Joy

Let go of how tightly you grasp your personal self importance.....

and you can Flow

Hang on and stay miserable

and alone.....


It really is a choice....

I hate to admit that i really doubt it...

But I do have Hope....

You know you can have Joy...

You just have to quit clinging to your description so Tightly...

Stop battling with yourself on the pretense (with yourself) that you are battling with others...

Let go of your battle

and join What is...

The security of your self created illusion may be comfortable
and feel more secure than

what really is...

But there is no Joy in your comfortable Illusion....

But as soon as your every move ceases to be defending that Illusion..

You will find the Joy your Soul wishes for you....

Stop defending a narrow description

accept what SIMPLY IS...

and I promise,

your life will become joyful and Magical...

I promise


why not give it a Try....?


What you are doing now is not working

you are defensive, and bitter, and afraid....

While I followed along the path you intended with your story, and it is as valid as the next, I've had my own questions about the Master, like is he the only Master inthe world and would another Master have handled the 'lesson' in a different fashion? Why does the fun saying, "...like herding cats" come to mind. We can all have fun here.

No of course he is not the only Master in the World....

And certainly any other Master would have handled it in their own unique Way...

But the one in the story was an "Enlightened Master"...

He saw more than the average Joe who might imagine that his actions should be different....


Something my Teacher told me once about Teaching.

He said imagine we are all on a stairway....
In front of us there are souls, who can help us
and behind us are souls...
who we can help

Now we can help that soul on the step behind us......

but if we reach back down the steps too far and try to pull someone along

we're only going to **** em off

and possibly frustrate ourselves....

and in so we are also reaching beyond the one right behind us who can most benefit from our Teaching


The Teacher in the Story was there for someone on the step Behind him
he could see that the Student was too far back
it would be a waste of his time and knowledge,
because the student still had a lot of evolving to do before he could receive the benefits of the Teachers knowledge...

Life will always bring us the Teachers we need...

often, as we become more open to it they don't come in personage

they come through many other channels...

Sometimes the channels..... can crack you up....

but the message is still there.

Surely the student in the story has a Teacher to learn from

but it just was not the Enlightened Master.

As Gem said, why cling to an identity of Master or Student?
Clinging to any role keeps us trapped.

All are learning and all are teaching and all may be mastering to some degree.
Once somebody said to me, "We're here to be student and teacher."
I said, "Oh good... Which one am I this time?"

It is not a matter of clinging to an identity of Master and student..
In the story the Master was an Enlightened Master...
they do exist

And the student....
was a Farmer...he he.

A dog is a dog
a cat is a cat...
It's not a matter of clinging to the idea
it simply is...

The story is simplicity itself,
yet some folks seem to want to make it much more...and complex,
and full of all sorts of hidden meanings in innuendo's

It is simply a lesson in Being Quiet


We don't learn by placing our thoughts and ideas all over the simplicity of life.

just as we don't learn from this simple story if we place all of our thoughts and ideas all over it..


It simply is saying...

Be Quiet

That is the Path...

It's also the first lesson in Raja Yoga..
and the most important

The key to Enlightenment is Being quiet enough...

stopping our endlessly running mind

and emotions


so that we can be

I don't know if notice that I have not said anything of a personal nature as derision or elation, these cute little insinuations you make are designed to belittle me, and I'm assuming that can only be useful for self elation.

Being is different thing to person. We would like to think Buddah was enlightened and Jesus, so our minds conjure these human forms and trick us into assigning enlightment to persona.

Why is it we don't conjure the form of a farmer or a pool player or a porn star or a soldier at war, a bikie, a schitzo.... ? These are all personas.

Of course, I'm only a bloke in la la land, and to say I have an interesting perspective is only a little lie, a pretence to make it seem reasonable, but as usual I find I can see right through the ruse and completely understand the intended insult.

In my case have not said anything to either deride nor elate anyone, because it's only useful to place myself in some scalar range somewhere below enlightenment and above ignorance... by way of personal comparison.

However once again
and for the last time
