Religion.

Do people follow a organised religion out of fear and a desire for certainty, and if we are psychologically dependent on others does that not stop us from finding the truth for ourselves ?

Yes, absolutely correct.

Taken from My Conversations With Jesus Christ by Alan Valiant:

'I cannot possibly approve of people being misled concerning their spiritual future but, unfortunately, all religions teach false doctrines in one way or another.

l do not wish to be too specific but those Christian churches that base their indoctrination on the premise that I can save their devotees are misguiding them. To claim, as they do, that mere belief in me is sufficient to absolve them from personal responsibility for their sins is tantamount to a sin in itself.

As the Dalai Lama said, the best religion is the one that brings you closer to God and makes you a better person. So if a religious creed hits the button with 'you', then go for it.
But as life is a continuum and the soul immortal, it doesn't really matter what religion you do or do not follow.

Wisdom is to be found in many places, so acquainting yourself with all religious persuasions and making use of the 'wheat' when you find it is the most fruitful spiritual course of action.

Greetings Sky 123,

As far as I am concerned the only religion you need is LOVE: love for every man, woman, child, animal, slug, snail, butterfly, bird, fish etc.: in other words anything and everything that lives eats and breathes in its own way - including yourself.

To do all that ain't easy - but it's the only way to go because it open your heart, mind body and soul to God, the Great Spirit.

This reminds me of a saying:
