Do I give out a message? Do I need to?
I wake up each morning with a joyful heart, happy to be alive, aware of my connection to spirit, and willing to go out of my way to ensure that those close to me feel supported and loved.
What more is there? Should I expect something in return?

The people your interact with will percieve you in some way and in some cases mirror back to you what that message is. You may feel for example that life also interacts with you a certain way due to what you give out. There is no need or expectation unless you want that to be part of it.

Hiya Shepherd and all
Here is nice example of a practical nature.
The last time I went out for a meal was about 7 months ago. Because of my disability, I'd rather stay at home. Not just because I have to take cushions with me to sit on (so I can get off the chair), but also the toilets are never high enough for me - disabled toilets tend to cater for the wheelchair-bound, not my condition.
My message to the universe was "I can't".
Last week after a serious talking to (by myself), I decided to take Mum out for lunch today and do a bit of shopping together. I'd checked the restaurant was level by ringing them yesterday. And I'd been to the place - 7 months ago.
As we walked in with numerous cushions under our arms, I spotted those high bar stools. (I'd totally forgotten about them.) Normally, folks have a drink there while waiting for their tables. However, I asked if we could sit there to eat. "Of course," was the answer. It was a perfectly wonderful lunch and the staff treated us both really well.
My message to the universe today was "I can".
And I did. And the universe made it easy.

Just to say that I thought that was a really cool and inspiring story, thanks for sharing it. Its relevant to me in a number of ways and I thought of my Mum, as she has a disability and I see her struggles with confidence and positivity.
Im not sure if you resonate with the idea of angels, but AA Michael can really help with courage and strength to assist with these situations as they arise if you are willing to call on him.

Very good advice Time and a nice reminder about judgement which is natural but as we become more aware we can begin to step back and do something different. If we get caught up in judgement, then don't carry the guilt but focus more on who you want to be and not who you were.

There are all good responses, this one intrigued me the most.
By our thoughts/words/deeds we send messages, evidently, sometimes if we send out messages of justice or a desire to protect, like a police officer might do a lot of, would that be a negative thing because the duties require using physical force on people sometimes?

Nah, they'd find something else to fight over like what flavour of popcorn is tastier or if cider is better than beer :-)
I think Bill and Ted nailed it down. "Be excellent to each other." Oh, and guitar lessons wouldn't go amiss.
