Thanks for responding Lynn :)
My memories were inspired by what others were also sharing. I would like to add that although I am not a member/devotee of any religion my feelings for Jesus run very deep. The little I know of his time on earth and what he offered humanity is a wonderful reason for celebrating his birthday ...

Hello
Yesterday I got wondereing where the Tree that is in many of our homes at this time of year started. In me mind I went to England for some reason thinking that tradtion stared there. To me very surpise I found it was Germany.
While its traditonally an Evergreen be it real or artifical it seems that in the 16th Century in Germany the tree was brought into one's home and decorated . Now back then it was with lit candles. ( can imagine some fires happened).
Later a star of angel was placed on the top to represent Bethlehem.
Being from Canada I found that the Tree came here in 1781 in Quebec. It was decked out with Candles and Fruits.
It found a path to England ( the place I thought it started ) in the 19th Centrury.
Its such a wonderful and simple sybol of the season.
Lynn
