You're thinking about comparatively small plants although small-scale solutions may also have their places in the overall picture. Such solutions may make economic sense in a few areas but trying to significantly replace coal and gas generated electricity with renewables will need various small-scale solutions and the likelihood is that many will be found to be uneconomic.
Much as you dislike wind turbines, my bet is that you'll have to put up with a whole bunch more - just like we all may have to accept deep-mined coal's impact on our landscape again in the future. The alternatives are a smaller population and/or less energy usage.
How likely is either of those scenarios?
