I’d experience the now and today, since I won’t be worried about tomorrow.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

Having essentially done that, I would say no, it is not time for me to do it permanently. It will happen inevitably, and I have things to do here before then.

It seems there is a strong feeling in spiritual circles that the afterlife is where it's at - to which my answer is if this life didn't have an important purpose, it wouldn't be here.

God does not waste.

This is the utility of gratitude.

Being where you are now, would you leave your loved ones? Have you thought of the implications if you were to merge?

Who says you have to leave your loved ones, or even your body, to merge into All that Is? This sort of idea keeps people trapped, often for a long time past tomorrow.

Merging means being aware in the Oneness, the Presence, and continuing to let go into it so you no longer think it is apart from you. Merging in meditation is called samadhi... and many people experience this every day.

And... others must have said this in the thread that I didn't read:

You can only let go into the All... Now... It's simply in this breath... this moment.

The answer I gave to ete233 and Time:

Yes, you are already a part of this all but you do not know yet "when a leave falls."

Quote:
I began to see that everything that is, is the Self, literally, your Self, my Self. Everything is the great Self. That is why God knows even when a leaf falls.

I fully agree, Humm.

If we assume that All That Is experiences through this kosmos and us, then there is still a lot for us, our spirits, to experience. It brings to mind something Joan Grant wrote in one of her books, Life as Carola.

"And lust is evil?"

"Only when it blinds the long in years to their own wisdom: and if they had not scorned that early rung, by which they should have grown strong in their youth, they would not be thus blinded in their age. Each rung of the ladder, rising from earth to heaven, must in its turn be climbed. Near its foot is a wolf, scenting its mate through the darkness; at its head a man about to enter paradise: yet while they climb they are part of the same whole, and when the climb is past they will still be one, with God."

Xan, I agree.
However, there comes a time when the merge is permanent and that is what I meant.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I believe that once merged we will be aware of the people who knew us but they will not be aware of us. They feel the loss.
