Should be plenty close. Sometimes setting one apart closer helps intention, though.
Wood is not a bad barrier. Leather shields energy quite a bit and plastics are like a black hole -not that they'll actually suck energy from a person or a stone, but whatever energy is going way won't go through.

You could look up the nearest big city that hosts an annual Gem and mineral show. That's the best place to find all your fancy or close. Tip: find the nearest gem and mineral club or lapidary and ask them. Other than that, new age bookstores.

Tip: cotton is fairly good with energy (accumulating and letting through), but avoid synthetic fibers if possible. Natural fibers that are not transformed, such as silk, work best. The only problem with those is cushioning, of course. some more coarse types of silk (which are cheaper) do make for thicker fabrics. I'll have to do some tests with down. If that works I might be making some "stone pillows". I bet I could sell tons with a name like that!

Hello Hawaiian Dreams.
The first time I went shopping for crystals, I bought several. Placed them in my bedroom. When I went to bed, my eyes were getting irritated, and I got too agitated to sleep. With my eyes closed, it felt as if I left a light on. After I while, I thought it must be the crystals energy field. So I took them out of the bedroom, and then I could get some sleep.
Today I only have a few crystals 'out-of-the-box' so to speak. They are the amethyst cluster, a few clear quartz crystals, and my black tourmaline. All the others are wrapped in their appropriate colored silk cloth, and packed away, for whenever I need them again.

Thanks for sharing your story visitor. I haven't had a problem with going to sleep yet... I've always fallen asleep pretty easily and still do. I do recall my dreams more often than once every 6 months... But I still need to try working with just a couple at a time.

I just got a rainbow moonstone the other day. The first night that I slept with it, I dreamt that my cousin died in a car crash. The next day, I told him to be careful and he revealed that on the same day, a car almost crashed into him. I told my other cousin about this, and he almost got into an accident too. He was driving on the freeway and an accident occurred right in front of him, but luckily he was able to stop in time. Wow!
