It all depends and can vary. There is no set range in earthly years. I've known of rapid returns within two years via a past life regression. But rapid returns are not the norm.

Something of interest...
Doesn't attachment to your earth family keep you
on the Other Side to, kind of, watch over them with interest?
So it could take a full generation to incarnate here again?
Also, the more knowledge you have that you don't have to 'watch over your family' ...that God is
taking care of everything...the faster you would move on
to 'wherever'...another Universe, say, join your Guru somewhere on another
Astral Planet, hang out in the Higher Celestial Spheres helping other souls in so many ways or incarnate
as a devotee somewhere in India...
I can feel (and experienced 3), my average relatives are still on the Other Side ...they have
too much 'stuff' with us here presently, (they also have the burden of
not being forgiven for some things)...they aren't free to just start anew
in another place, yet.

man i didn't know that! I was really on the fast track then, out and back in within 7 months. But maybe time goes differently when you are out so who knows how long of a break I really got  |

With the help of a gifted friend.....I know I died in the pacific campaign in 1944........and started my current trip around the sun anew in 1962........so about 18 years between my current life and the last......
I'm also aware that I have what you might call " carry overs" from that time and a couple others that came before that in the early-mid 1800's
Interestingly ....I am aware of stints in the military in the early 1800's and wwll.......but in this life I've totally avoided the military. ....its almost feels like the year I was born was deliberately chosen to avoid it.

Hi Miss H, lovely question, I can only answer from my own belief system, so here I go.
No, generally we cant watch over over our earth family from the astral. We have a new life to live over there and new growth needs to happen, so in general we have no contact. so it doesn`t affect how long we are there for, but on average we are there for around 60 years. There are situations that alter this such as suicide. and some folks whose attraction to some things here is so strong that they don`t pass over properly and spend a while between here and the astral.
Yes if you have put in spiritually in this life, then you will go to a spiritual place on the astral plane and quite possibly with your guru or avatar. But eventually through our lives, even these attachments need to be left behind for the total rejoining with the divine.

We agree on so many things!
This 'watch over' thing...my family and I still have direct, clear contact
still....after decades of them being over there... during emergencies, that is.
