Astral Projection event/Hypnagogic Jerk

Hypnagogic Jerk is when you are about to fall asleep and all of a sudden you feel that you are falling or you trip and your body jolts itself awake. Although, people have similar occurrences when they are in some sort of astral projection event. How would you know which one is which?

For me it's completely different when I astral project. I fell as though I'm literally shooting through a tunnel. My head tingles. There is a static noise, for lack of a better word. I know what you mean by a hypnagogic jerk though. It happens to me a lot. It's such a strange feeling! So weird.
