"Jerk" right before falling asleep
Hi everybody. I am having this issue and it's causing me some anxiety. Nearly every night right before I fall asleep, I sort of feel this "pop/jerk" and then I feel as if I'm falling into a void. It's actually a violent jerk, and it's so intense that I become frightened and quickly re-establish myself physically. However, the moment I start falling back asleep it happens again. I can't sleep because of it!
I told myself that I would just let myself fall into this void, but I haven't been able to... the fear that I'll completely dissolve and lose my ground is too overwhelming.
Does anybody know what I'm talking about? If so, how did you deal with it?
It's really starting to affect my daily life in a disruptive way because of the sleep deprivation.

I have something similar happen, sometimes when on the verge , after waking up . It used to happen a lot , and it also came with a sound rush, and seemed a lot like if I'd jumped into one of my energy dreams all at once, without the easing into that high energy state that comes in a dream.
I was reading about the brain's chemical switch between waking and dreaming , and how it is usually either on or off, in one state or the other , and how a lot of strange experiences like OBE's and NDE's (and other stuff, like probably my energy dreams, lucid dreams, and maybe you 'Void' state)
may occur when this switch is kind of stuck inbtween modes, and there's an overlap of waking and REM (dream) consciousness.
Whatever, it seems to me like a kind of doorway or window of opportunity
you're being presented with . You won't get lost ; your body/brain should know what to do to return to nominal function before long ; My inclination would be to go along for the ride . The huge-fast shifts I get only last a second or less, usually, but sure feel like being yanked or jolted away intensely , but I like the idea. Void to me is full of not just nothing, but also everything , ie, energy .

The jerking (or falling feeling, also sometimes vibrations/rumbling) is sleep paralysis. Its very common and can happen anytime one is falling to or waking from sleep. There are many topics on this in the forums, use the search to find them.

Also, do get yourself checked out by a doctor for any potential physical problem which may cause it.

I would have to agree with belle, go see your doctor incase it is something medical, but falling feeling is known as an afect as obe or outa body experience, you get a falling feeling with that,

It could be as Native Spirit said, that just as you are about to fall asleep you enter an out of body experience, your objective mind trys to stop it this is the jerking feeling you get.Lwould also see a doc, just to rule out any medical reason.

Everyone will feel a "jerk" or quick spasim before falling asleep. It is a group of large brain cells that all fire at once just before falling asleep. It is perfectly natural and it means you are falling asleep. It might be a evolutionary response to scare off predators before falling to sleep.

Check this out; http://uk.iacworld.org/falling-sensa...n-do-about-it/
Someone told me ages ago it happens when your heart falls out of the right rhythm as you fall into sleep. The big jerk/pulse is apparently the adrenaline your brain sends to restart your heart beating properly.
I usually get it when I got to sleep too fast, when I'm too tired.
