the Lord's prayer
what do we believe Jesus was teaching his followers? I know it's how to pray, but what was he really teachings us ask for in prayer? Jay brought this to mind when she offered up her prayer. I wanted to know your views on the Lord's Prayer.

From the prelude to the Lord's Prayer, we are not suppose to repeat what is mentioned in the prayer but pray from our hearts.
Of the 2 versions of the prayer, they emphasis a closer relation to God, asking for his help and guidance and for the Kingdom to arrive on Earth as it is in Heaven. Also, the importance of God's name.

The two Lord's Prayer are not word for word in each account. It appears the Matthew 6:9-13 came first and later, the Luke 11:2-4 version.

The Lords Prayer taken from Mathews Gospel contains 'Seven Petitions' which come after the initial address to 'Our Father'.....
The first three use ' thy',
Hallowed be THY name, THY kingdom come, THY will be done.......
The last four use 'us',
Give US this day our daily bread, forgive US our trespasses, lead US not into temptation, but deliver US from evil…
When you look at the Seven Petitons, the first three obviously are relating to God ( Our Father ) and the last four relate to Human conditions..... Imo

why on earth would god want to lead us into temptation?

That's something I often wondered Busby, the only reason I could think of is He/She tests us so we pray not to be tempted/tested.....

Busby,
Use a better translation and the temptation(s) disappear.

But then, this scripture does emphasis the importance of events played out in Heaven which we are not familiar with that are brought out in the Book of Job.

When you look at all the different translations of one individual Verse of Scripture it's very similar to going into a Restaurant and choosing from the Menu ( Scripture ) the food ( Verse ) that's suits and mybe that's the whole point, the Spiritual Food will become available when the time is right......
