live for the moment? make plans for the future?

This is the core premise of my message.

Tomorrow is not promised today.

However, so many of our goals extend way beyond now and today.

We expect that we will be around to carry out plans and long term goals.

But we really have no proof or good reason to expect that we will be here in an hour or a day or a week from now.

To the extent we are acting now for goals far into the future, we are potentially wasting the value we can reap in the present moment.

No one knows how long we will be here. So why waste another minute using up the present moment with the unknowable future?

A little abstract, I may come back later with some examples.

Do you know how many other animals have the capacity to think about the future?

if I was a bear I wouldn't avoid using my teeth.

As a human I won't avoid using fore-knowledge and anticipation.
