That truly is the best way - very wise. Make friends with people - find among them the real friends, then you could possibly date one (or more) just for the friendship which can be just as fulfilling and less anguished and tortuous than a surrender of one's soul. If things turn carnal there's no need to surrender your soul at all - or at least not until you know them exceedingly well over a long period.
