How do I speak to my guide?

Isle Walker, interesting on your " be careful what you wish for story ". I have heard that said but never heard a story from anyone. There is also a song along those lines .... I used to keep hearing the song quite a bit, which made me wonder "is this a message for me ? " .

Yes, the creativity in the methods of communication can be pretty mind-bogling. And for the skeptic, is a way of disputing the connection.

I've also found things in my walks that I feel were specifically for me. During a time when I was figuring out exactly what brain receptors had been causing me physical problems for most of my life, I found what I call the "Brain Rock". It has a hemisphere, limbic system, frontal cortex--the whole thing.

And I had previously done these exercises in a book about intuition. You randomly draw one of 30 pictures you pick yourself and then do the exercise.

The first one I drew was considered the Guiding Image--and I drew a diagram of a brain! I found the brain rock shortly after doing this exercise.

Then one day, at the lookout place that I stop each day, I found a mortar (as in mortar and pestle) presumably made by Pimu indians who lived on the island for over 7,000 years. It was inland, so someone must have found it along the coast and then left it behind as they left the interior--exactly where I stop each day.

I've had this desire to get/find/come upon physical items that I "owned" in a previous life--and it occurred to me that I might have one already! (My guide is Indigenous. I know I spent this life (as indigenous) with him.)

I really like this idea--of physical things being transported through time--to me! [Obviously delusions of grandeur! ]

I have made no contact with a spirit guide at all!

So I have a few questions:

What do I do to initiate a relationship with a spirit guide?
How will I know the difference between their genuine guidance and my own thoughts? By that I mean how will I know when it's not just me perhaps subconsciously answering my questions out of want for a spirit guide?
Once I have contact how do I keep them around? I've heard so many stories of people losing/forgetting their guides because they've gone quiet.

These are the key questions that everyone asks themselves.

As to initiation, you might try a meditation to meet your guides. There should be several out on YouTube. I know John Edward has a CD of it. You begin by getting calm, going through several visualizations. Then you ask to meet your guides. You may ask them their names or what function they provide. And you wait for something to occur.

The most important thing is that you don't disregard what it is you see/feel/hear, even if you think you are making it up. Just it write down (in a journal or something) what you see and file it away for a while. [I have a story about this part but I won't ...]

Then, you ask for confirmations (in your head). Being in nature is a good place to do it. Or in morning or at night before you go to sleep.

If there is a particular problem on your mind, ask for help. Ask for specific answers in specific ways.

Some people get feathers, coins, songs on the radio. Make sure that the answer you want is specific--like ask for a sign NOW to this question.

It helps is these are deep-felt requests, not just "make me wealthy", etc.

Then, it depends on you how many iterations of this asking and answering that it takes before you actually realize you are being heard. For some of us it takes thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands.

For me, the biggest clue that I'm being heard is feeling emotion when I do--normally a very loving feeling in my chest that makes me weepy.
