Ghost sighting confusion

I was walking back home last night, when i heard someone walking behind me as he passed me he said hello and i said hello back, i noticed he was wearing a suit, he got to about six foot in front of me then disappeared into thin air.It was not totally dark where it happened as there were lots of street lights. But the thing that confuses me is he seemed like a normal person and if he had not disappeared into thin air i would not have known he was a ghost, is this normally how ghosts appear to people who have seen them?

It is how they appeared to Joan Grant. She always made sure other people saw the same person before she let on she saw him/her. She would also ask 'do you happen to wear a physical body.'
