End Of Watch: A Tribute to Officer Robert Deckard SAPD

It's Christmas
Not a time for tragedy
Not a for fear
Or for tears
But life goes on
Even during the holidays
Senseless murders
Tragedy knows no boundaries

It's Christmas
It's the season to be jolly
How can one be jolly when
The man that was secretly Santa
Was killed?
Killed in the line of duty.

Life must go on they say
But how can it
For this family?
It's a reminder to us
How fragile life is

No tears of joy
On Christmas morn
Only mourning
Tears of great sadness
Aching hearts

Daddy is gone
The man that held the tiny
Infant in his gentle hands
The same hands that held a gun
To protect and to serve

He knew
His family knew
That day, like every day
The moment he stepped into
His boots
He may never return

It's Christmas
Unlike Christmases of the past
This one is different
Their daddy is no longer
Santa
Sadness abounds
Aching heart
Tear stained faces

Christmas will always be
A constant reminder
A senseless tragedy
Daddy is gone
Never to be Santa again.

End of watch. Rest easy sir.

This is a lovely tribute but also depicts the very sad reality of life for many of our Protective Serviceman.

My niece's partners father died on Christmas day and I see the torment in him that still arises after all these years.
