here's my path in arriving at the thought:

relaxation. okay, i get that.

then... what? you're relaxed, but just ... like that? and sort of ...

i don't know what you put your energy into (besides putting energy INTO RELAXING). maybe i'm confused. once you're relaxed... then what?

I imagine a big volume control button in my head and slowly turn the volume down. What normally happens is dream sequences start revealing themselves in my field of vision and I'm able to 'step into' those dreams fully conscious and awake.

It just wasn't happening the other night...I couldn't get the volume down.

I can't do active physical work (the disability). That's probably part of the problem. My mind is over-compensating for the lack of activity in my body...and going at 3,000mph. LOL.

Yes I realised that. I wasn't being insensitive Squish, just saying that perhaps you might need to find another compensation to help your body feel tired?

I have different ways of doing it, some of which have already been said, but recently I have found it helpful to bring my attention to my 'higher mind'. I have no idea if there IS such a thing, but if there is, it seems to me to exist about a foot above my head. What I notice is that when I bring my attention to my higher mind, in that moment, thought stops and I become very very present. The reason is that the higher mind is essentially a 'seer' of where we are going, and the thinking mind works out the 'how' to get there. So when I bring my attention fully to the higher mind, the noisy thinking mind shuts up for a while. That doesnt mean that I can then see where I am going, though there is a sense that where I am going (and actually where we are all going) is good. And then because there is a feeling of goodness about where we are going, I am able to appreciate the right now.

No. Perhaps I should have said that. It possibly has quite the opposite effect because I do it sometimes when Im feeling a bit tired and want to feel extremely awake.
