It's been said that every religion was right for that culture at that time, and it's people and culture that 'drives' Spirituality. Spirituality is not an absolute, if you go back to the Rig Vedas, the Upanishads etc, you'll see how Spirituality has changed according to the culture. As it did with the so-called New Age.
OK, let's get back to the basics because often too much is taken for granted. Where does your Spirituality come from? Who or what decides what you believe or not?
Is being absorbed in either Spirituality or society both being self-absorbed?

good point. I like to believe spirituality and a person's emotions are very closely related. A way to cope with often intense emotions and what we are taught by our own society like you mentioned. Often a combination.
