Flower fun
hehe i am bad i know. I love flowers and have studied horticulture in university and in my own life's way. I have learned much more on my own too for what it's worth. Anyways I was walking down the street one day and found a lovely daisy. I picked it and smelled it to discover the aroma of a ripe a$$hole. I was disgusted but have since found the purpose of this flower scent. Most think that it is because of the carrion flies who enjoy decomposing matter and so the scent attract these pollinators to them through releasing this scent. However I have found the truth!!! It is so that I can pick a beautiful a flower and lure the unexpected into taking a great whiff of this flower expecting nothing more then a pleasantly lovely fragrance just to be disgusted!! I love nature! I call is the A$$ daisy.

Allow me to sweeten the thread.
A couple of years ago I picked up some Bulbs, of the "Stargazer Lilly", from the local Home Store.
I'm something of the stargazer, so I thought I'd grab em.
They're in bloom again, now.
You know, the scent of it is like smelling a bag of hard candy! Unusual.

If I'm not mistaken, Shasta daisies are very common but smell awful. Not certain if that's the type of daisy you found.
I have some gorgeous orchids that smell like chocolate and another like lemon cupcakes/vanilla. There's all sorts of species and hybrids with peculiar scents ; Bulbophyllums smell like flesh and feces to attract flies and beetles, while Dracula orchids smell like mushrooms to attract fungus gnats. Every flower has a scent for a reason.
