Prof. Mick Aston dies
Now the name may mean nothing to many of you but he was a hero of mine. He was the brains behind the Time team programmes which I always found to be riveting. OK, much of it was Pop Archeology but I never missed an episode. So many experts who were extreme enthusiasts over the job !
The Council for British Archeology gave "Mick" a lifetime achievement award last year.
I would have loved to have been one of his students A genuine Brit. eccentric.

He brought archaeology to the masses - and made it interesting...
The viewing figures for Time Team...Who would have believed it?

Always the calm voice of reason when Tony Robinson got too excited ...... Mick Aston was a big part of bringing Archaeology to the masses and making it very interesting to watch, without compromising his professional craft.
Such a shame to lose him, as he was a larger than life character ....... rainbow hat/scarf/gloves and all !!
Me and Mrs Soulie have been avid watchers since the first series (which seems so long ago !!) ........ he will be very hard to replace, but he leaves a legacy which will inspire generations of people to be interested in the history all around them in the earth.

I noticed with sadness that he had passed. An admirable man who stood by his principles when he quit Time Team when it became dumbed down. I stopped watching it then.

That's funny ...... we had noticed the change in content recently, and the absence of a few well known faces amongst the team ...... and now I read that the programme is to be made no longer.
I also read that Mick Aston was unhappy with the "dumbing down" that had taken place on the show ...... the "pratting about" as he put it, at the expense of seeing more of the archaeology is a sad symptom of the times I reckon.
Trying to "entertain us" by padding out the show with unnecessary drivel ........ that was never going to work !!

One hell of an Archaeologist, he'll be missed by many.

I did not know he had passed - a sad loss for the archaeology world.
