Yeah but it's not as if we're actually taking up that much bandwidth to begin with..

I do sometimes get 'server is busy' but not all the time, and don't find it a nuisance. It's just one of those things. The worst thing I find is if I've spent ages writing a response and lose it in cyberspace....now that's blahhhh! So if I ever write one of those I put it on notepad first, so it doesn't matter if it doesn't post. I come back later.
Maybe I'm too patient...? I dunno.
But generally I find this site isn't so bad compared to some. 90% of the time I have no issues here. Sites with loads of news, ads, graphics, videos etc go all over the place on my system, and only semi-load sometimes, usually at peak traffic times....that is totally blahhhh!

You make it sound like that's a bad thing
Anyway, I guess there's nothing that can be done. Just one of those things I suppose.

Hello
I just count the blessings for the number of times we have "lost" SF totally and completely we still have t his place.
I have been here since 2007 I have seen SF go down after we lost Matt to his new journey, and it was brought back by dedicated Staff, I have seen it crash and all was lost and again dedicated Staff brought it back to life from next to nothing to breath life again. We all had to re register.
To come to be Admin here so that former Staff could become just members here and have a well deserved break. SF is a rare thing we have and a lesson in patients if we get "server is busy" is better than being in the Chat Room and having the lights go off, and trying to find out why.
When doing a longer reply I do them in Word and I paste it over. That way I keep it safe. Doing readings I do the same.
Lynn

SF isn’t the only site that experiences any form of latency, or server down-time… Primarily, such is brought about by too many contributors pressing the same buttons at the same time, causing an overload on a specific area of the forum mechanisms…
As for writing long contributions, I compile all mine in a Google doc (spell-checker) template (saved as such) which prevents the build-up of untitled documents within that system…
Then it’s a simple case of cut and paste to complete the operation ~ as others have suggested… If the server does happen to be down, the clipboard is still on hand to put submissions right back where they belong…
The other interesting thing about using Google docs, is that the editing facility is second to none: where spelling and grammar is concerned…
Robbie….

To be honest, I have a 2nd rate internet connection. Internet can go on and off at a moment's notice. Some sites hardly load at all at busy times.
But SF is usually okay. So much so, that I have it on shortcut on my desktop, and click on it to see if my internet is working properly. Where other sites won't load, or only semi-load, this one does!
I wasn't here when the big difficulties happened after Matt's passing. But I can imagine what dedicated people and staff did to get this site all systems go again, and am very grateful.

I like the idea of a 'like' or 'thumbs up' option also......its a nice way of acknowledging someones post without having to add something that may not be relevant or has already been covered, but you want to acknowledge anyway...quickly.....it seems that lots of posts end up in slanging matches and totally off topic because someone decides they don't like what you say, so they make the whole thread about themselves instead....boring.....a thumbs up or down.....would be quick and less obnoxious...... :)

I wouldn't give Facebook the time of day... When I joined, several months ago at the request of a friend, I lasted less than a week, before closing the account, which was achieved a lot quicker than it took me to set it up... Oh JOY...

Yes I agree. Although a dislike button could cause lots of other problems.. lol.
But a thumbs up button would be alright.
