Hope in the Next Generation
I wanted to share a little story about a young man I work with in schools who is so inspiring to me, he constantly infuses a sense of hope in the next generation for me! This is a huge comfort for me as I move toward my sunset years (Old person), to know that the young ones are picking up where the previous generation has left off.
I have the honour of seeing many young people embrace who they are, where they come from, where they are going, and what their purpose is. But this one young man, "T", is just one of those young people who stand out for me.
T. had a horrendous childhood - I'm sure you all know what that means. He is in the child & family services system and lives with two caring foster parents who recognize the importance of Indigenous children/youth connecting to their culture. So they support him in so many ways to do this.
He started his first Sundance last summer and was gifted a Drum. He has a beautiful voice - I'm not talking pop culture beautiful but I mean his Spirit comes through his voice very strongly. He shared a Drum teaching with younger children last week, and as I sat there listening to him, tears came to my eyes. I was incredibly moved by how a 13 year old man sounded like an Elder already.
And I just saw him dance at a Powwow for the first time on Saturday. He was so beautiful! His eyes gleamed with pride and he danced so proud and tall during the Grand Entry. He came up to me afterward and gave me a big hug. I was so honoured.
Let's all work together to make sure the next generations are supported to carry on the important Spiritual work that we contributed to, as have all the Generations before us to give us our rightful legacy when we came to this world.

As far as the next generation goes, there's no reason to believe that they won't improve on us and the generation after even more so.
As a hobby I follow horse & greyhound racing. It's fairly well accepted in those circles that each generation improves on the last by about 3%. I know that a lot of this is achieved through selective breeding & improved training methods. I can't see any reason that humans wouldn't also improve in all areas, physically, mentally & spiritually.
It would have been a great experience to see but I feel sure that it won't be the last.

Hi Deepsoul. No I have not. What is it's theme/focus? Sounds interesting. Thanks for the suggestion!
