How can death be the end/birth be the beginning?

While I've been skeptical of continuance after death, this thought keeps me in question.

Think about before you were born. For a moment, let's say it was nothingness/non-existence for an eternity prior to birth. If death is a return to this same nothingness forever..why can't it happen once again?

Let's keep going.

If it was an eternity of non existence...then how are we here at all? Remember that eternity is essentially never beginning or ending. By definition it could not be any other way.

How can something be eternal if it is "halted?" By the definition of eternity, death cannot be something eternal because it has a point of beginning.

Almost done...

how can non-existence be an option if it doesn't "exist?" If death supposedly passes you into non-existence, then that would mean existence and non existence are closely connected, and imply each other. Non-existence then would be a void, not "nothing." Which brings me back the first point.....couldn't it then happen again?

These thoughts and paradoxes suggest that eternity is already happening, always was, and always will. Ancient wisdom says "we" are a part of this process.

Birth is not the beginning, death is not the end.

Death simply describes a state in which your particular arrangement of atoms no longer functions to create thought. It's a complex pattern, and extremely unlikely to ever occur again.

Interesting thinking Glass Onion
There are all sorts of ways which show us death is not the end, and birth is not the beginning. Yours is an interesting perspective.

Very good, I also agree.

How can it be a state, if it's nothing?

We are spiritual Beings temporarily in a physical body and this is not our true Home...There is never nothing or nothingness....Our soul/spirit/conscienceness is alive with or without a physical body...

your physical body is like a cocoon. when you shed your cocoon that's called death. And you transform into a beautiful butterfly

death is like transforming into a beautiful butterfly after shedding the physical body....... its a re-birth....... its freedom... u can flyyy

I'm talking about the state of the atoms that make up your body at present. Death is our term for when those particles don't function together in a particular way we recognize as "alive".

Nonsense, there is nothing that is not physical.

I don't know, but I think what we call pure Consciousness, has no physical properties as we know it, everything arises from Consciousness, and in truth Consciousness is everything, but talking in levels, as with the ocean, beneath the waves is the calm ocean, the waves seem separate, but its all One, all very paradoxical, oh yea.
