I think that it so depends on the soul and why they are an athiest. What their definition of athiest is. No religion? No God as the church defines it? Or is it on a soul level they have forgotten the light, to a large degree?

Some people have distanced from light or source even on the other side. They may go to the vibration where this belief is held. Others maybe took on disbelief in this incarnation and will go to the vibration they hold as soul rather than what they thought in the incarnation. Others may have deep spiritual connection but in their incarnation rejected humankind's definition of god. Decided to be athiest. So I think it depends.

leaving the body -

I would assume that like the rest of us - they leave the body - The home of the ego - And on leaving the body - they can either be connected to the All or lose All connections.

If you don't have a body, whether atheist or not - Then does your family grow in size or not?

Milarepa said, "That knowing one thing, I know it all and knowing it all, I know that it is one."

If your family and friends are connected to your body and your body is gone - how will you know them, when thier form also drops away?

The Gita mentions, recieving a new model after this model has been used up. Reincarnation would seem to occur in an atheists as well as a person with other beliefs, if it happens at all.

We all seem to have come from the unknown place and will possibly return to it or not. Anything that is not lasting is not the truth. We create our own dreams and in them and from a seeming nothingness we manifest all the wonderous and frightening adventures of the mind. It also ends and we can awaken frightened or elated. When this dream is over what comes next is anybody's guess.

I believe that most atheists are not too impressed with other's idea of a God. If the word was changed from God to nature, many of them would jump on board. Either way we will all catch the last bus out of town.

Enjoy the ride.

Ps: Sorry for getting a little (LOL) off track.

What happens? They have to wake up to the reality of the situation!

But then, having accepted the situation, the same applies to them as everyone else. They are known for what and who they truly are inside.

The lowest frequency of brain activity is Delta.Delta Waves like all brain waves, are detected by electroencephalography (EEG). Delta waves were originally defined as having a Frequency between 1-4 hertz, although more recent classifications put the boundaries at between 0.5 and 2 hertz.

This is the deep sleep brain activity..The silence, Timeless Void of deep sleep. Zero Brain Activity being brain dead.. So you see(hopefully) .. You get a glimpse of this timeless void each day/night when you swim in the depths of the void of deep sleep. If this is comparable to death.. And I reckon 0.5 hertz is as as close to 0 hertz we can get. Then it is what it is and therefore Death itself is nothing to fear.. The process and ways in which we die being another story entirely, the fact remains a perfect peace and tranquility in perpetuity seems to be on the cards for even the most devout skeptic.

What happens to atheists when they die? ...The same things happen to atheists that happen to others.

Edited to add: It's not accurate to say atheists believe in nothing. They simply reject the notion of a god (or gods).

The secular humanist or atheist will die with two options. He is alive today because the total karma of his soul was acceptable for future life. If he does not damage his karma greatly, then he will be reborn over and over again. At the end of man upon this Earth if he has not been saved then he will either be transmitted to another Earth at this level, another Earth at a lower level, or the pit of hell at the center of this earth.
The advantage of being saved by Jesus assures an escape from the pit of hell for those who really deserve it. Thus the individual will have another chance to live and progress.
Atheism is not a sin. We cannot sin against God but we can sin against our fellow man and this creation.

So, since both science and spiritual writings refer to the world, and in space/time, as the "Dream", "Maya", or the "Illusion", jerry...

Here is a question with respect to St. John's visions in Revelation... and inferred elsewhere in the Holy Scriptures...

"Is there an end to the "Illusion" of time and space as we know and experience it?
And, with regard to the greater reality and Truth... "Eternity"?

What are we also hearing in the many NDE accounts reported, and available for reading today?

St. Peter...
"So, we look toward a new Heaven, and a new Earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness."

The new heavens and new earth of Isaiah is clearly a physical world. That is why the prophet says that people will live at least one hundred years. we are physical entities and would only feel comfortable with a similar experience. An eternal life in a meaningless higher world presents no freedom or opportunities. You might as well just be a picture on a wall.why should God give us free will and then destroy it in eternity.righteousness is but an ideal which has little meaning. we serve
god best by exploring space and time to bring the data to
god. God needs the data so that god can survive.

Atheist is just another title for "lost soul" ..To not know God is to not know your Self. If its lost in this life, it will be the same in the next- another lost soul in search of itself..
