I've got a new winter project. Planting grass seed for my duckies and cats. Ducks go wild over it. Cats eat it to pass their hairballs so they don't puke all winter long.

I have one producing planter and 3 that are about ready to sprout. I never realized my duckies get constipated in the winter when the grass doesn't grow. Oh my! Learned something new.

It is finally warm enough to begin dreaming about the garden. My facebook must have known as it sends me all manner of beautiful ideas and picture of gardens and planters! Dreaming and planning and trying not to say the “s” word.

Were you peeking over my shoulder? it just found my strawberries!
They snuck past the old corn patch! I can not wait either, but for us we have to get to May before they bud. And we still have some hard freezes in our future, so I will not tease them out just yet.

It was unseasonably warm 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Phew! I gave begun racking out the garden, putting rock circles around the herbs, so my husband will not till over them. The trash bin is full and I keep trying to think out a compost system that will function in my arid climate.... oh well, I will keep dreaming!

Ducks ate my strawberries within 2 years of acquiring them (the ducks). And they taught their young'un's to eat them to. They will even eat tomatoes! But raspberries they don't eat.

I'm wearing shorts right now! Grass and weeds are peeking their little heads out of the ground.

All winter I've kept wheat grass growing for my ducks and cat. I have 4 planters at different stages of growth right now. Grass will tolerate 3 cuttings then I have to replant. It's been an ongoing battle to keep a constant supply.

But my cat no longer throws up all winter long and ducks don't get constipated from a diet of just grains. So it's worth it.

Long term I won't be able to do much gardening or planting this summer. I'm seeing a pain doctor now. I will be eligible for a procedure to combat pain once I have passed my one year anniversary from back surgery. That will be July. Sooo looking forward to that. In the meantime lots of meds to help.

Well, there's still have a good snow cover so will be about a month or so for me to see any green. Waiting for the snow melt run off so hubby can pump out the water to fill up our dug out.

Hubby saw a Canada goose a few days ago so won't be long before the rest return.

So yeah, spring is around the corner.
