Cleaning/clearing crystals

I have been looking everywhere (and it's probably right under my nose) to find a place where I can look up the crystals/stones to find out how to clear or clean the crystal. I don't want to do something to it that will cause damage. I've read some crystals is no on salt or water, etc.

I have just received a blue and green Kyanite (I understand these to not need cleared) but I also have a Prehnite and Aquamarine that I want to try using. I think they need cleaned first?

Why do you want to clean them? Are they dusty? Use a soft cloth and wipe them off.

I have read that you clear or clean a chrystal before you program it. Not meaning that they were dirty.

I thought that's what you meant, but that kind of practice is a no-no to me. As someone with animistic leanings, "inanimate" objects are not just soulless things to be used like tools. They're things to be respected and worked with as persons; things you develop a relationship with. Programming a crystal is like saying you want to brainwash a person to do your bidding and be your slave. It is disrespectful of the Spirit of that crystal.

If you're not an animist, though, feel free to ignore everything I just said. Many occultists seem content to manipulate their tools with little respect for their own essence/soul/character. It's just a different way of looking at things.

I have had much luck using sage. That is is my go to cleanser when salt and water is not an option. I then place them on the window sill for 24 hours to charge by the moon and the sun. Before use, I hold them in my non dominant hand and warm them up with my energy.
