Making peace with your past

A thread about making peace with your past might not seem like one that belongs on this subforum, but they do say you need to heal before you come into union with your twin flame. At first this didn't seem like so necessary to me, but I've come to reason that twin flames are like magnets and attract each other when the time is right, maybe when we fit perfectly and maybe at separation we don't exactly fit and we need to work on ourselves. That's how we attracted each other in the first place, when we worked on enough on ourselves and only our twin flames could bring about more changes within us.

Anyway, how did you come to make peace with certain parts of your past? Maybe you didn't like yourself back then... how did you come to to view a negative event or string of events as a good thing? I know this is vague but maybe someone will give me some good advice.
