What vegetables can be juiced raw?
Hi everyone, did a quick search here and on the vegetarian/vegan section and didnt find any satisfactory answers. I'd like to know what vegetables can be safely juiced raw, and are low in calories. Perhaps other forum members may find this thread useful as well? Also perhaps any vegetables to avoid raw. I know broccolis, cabbages and similar ball shaped veggies are best cooked, as well as some types of sprouts. The ones I'm particularly interested in are:
Asparagus
Okra (or ladies fingers)
Long beans, french beans, string peas, etc.
Water spinach
Are there any more of these I could juice? I was thinking maybe a shot of onion/garlic juice, and then later 2 glasses of these for dinner

I've done juicing over the years
Lets see, there is also celery, carrots, kale, lettuce. Kale and lettuce do not provide a lot of juice, and can take a lot it to make a decent amount.
I will say, also from my experience, that pure vegetable juice can be very, hard to consume on its own. And is more palpable when fruit is mixed into it. Like some apples.

Thanks :) yes, i intend to mix green apples in. And also bell peppers, cucumbers, and other veggie-fruits I read that too much kale could have some weird acid side effect, is that true? I know i eat quite a bit of raw kale and lettuce once in awhile and i'm fine.

In the UK, even the National Farmers Union, a conventional agriculture group, said that juicing could very well lead to an over-exposure to pesticides. So gotta be organic, first base. Just a small cup too. I've met a few folk who got ill from juicing, my bro for one.

I've actually read that the pesticides are mostly trapped in the fibre and only a little will be pressed out with the juice. But yes I guess its possible also that I might be consuming more pesticides, you might be right. The reviews seem to show that the benefits far outweigh the pesticide thing though, so I'll have to give it a try to see how it goes thanks!

It's a good idea to add seaweed to your smoothies/juices becasue they have lots of really good nutrients. Nuts are good for adding also becasue they scrape the walls of your intestines and help to remove any waste that has become stuck there. Nuts are also one of the best things you can eat to give you extended energy levels without getting a rebounding drop in energy which things like sugar and caffine will cause. If you want to take garlic I would just add a small amount, maybe 1/4 or less of an average sized clove, to the juice you are making every day.
Happy juicing :)

Thanks! I was mainly worried about the raw cabbages and brocolli, what with all the oxalic acid and thyroid stories going around. I'll test them out slowly and see if I have any reactions i guess And yes to the garlic part, I figured I'll just chop a few cloves and swallow them like pills before I sleep instead. Too spicy in the juice.. Have you tried sprouts? I hear they are a sort of bioenergetic superfood. Thanks :)

No I haven't tried them. I've heard they are really good for you though. I try to use as much organic fruit and veg as possible. I nowhere near trust the chemicles in GM foods but sometimes I have no choice and I have to buy them.
I actually use both fruit and vegetable in my smoothies. I know it's advised against by many becasue it's said can give you gas. I very rarely fart from drinking smoothies although they sometimes make me burp which I'm fine with. If I put oats in my smoothies I'll fart bad do so I avoid doing that. You might find that you fart in the beginning but that won't last long. It is just your body clearing all the rubbish out. After a week or so you'll feel much cleaner and you will notice your breath is fresher and your body odour is much better.
I've got a good technique that can make any smoothie, no matter what is in it taste good. If you want me to type up a description of how I do it just let me know and I'll post it for you no problem.

Haha yes please :) would be great for anyone who happens on this thread too im sure. I juiced some cabbage, carrot, lime and okra for dinner. Okras were really slimy... Dont think i'd juice them again anytime soon.. Wasnt very gross though, but i think the slime prevented some juice from passing through the sieve, wasting a bit. Heads up for anyone interested in trying haha.
I also had 2 apples, an orange and a pear, and noticed slight gas. I assumed it was due to me swallowing some air while putting extra effort into chewing my fruits, but it could be as youve mentioned
