So the children's children have bones.

This chair I made recently, well about 3 months ago and it has "make the myth up as you" written in weld across the back and it's called "so the children's children have bones".

Basically it's about havin' the braves to follow your heart and muse and create that storybook life that can be retold as stories in the future. And by creating that sense of myth within a life others can be inspired to do what challenges them and their security and be stronger as a result.

But like all my stuff, which isn't thought out at all, but barely conceived and then started, this work also has many other layers of meaning. One I found out just after I finished it, as opposed to it's name which was conceived about halfway through, was that the carved chunk of wood that is the seat is our own unfurling stories and as such it needs to have recognisable density to it. But the steel framework that holds it up is our belief systems and the abilities and skills we have to use those belief systems to validate and fill out our world and so the flimsy looking but more than adequately strong framework creates the needed juxtaposition to hold our story almost floating above the floors of reason.

There is no designing of my work beyond what I require to start and even then I can change direction once I realise what's really trying to manifest. This one was a real labour and must have taken about 50hours all told to complete.

3 months later I'm still kinda resting after the 6 week binge of workin' for an exhibition that in the end didn't sell anything.

I used to be an art welder myself, and I miss it very much. I'm still drawn to metal and ironwork whenever I encounter it. I just think it's the most amazing substance, the stuff of weapons and war and industrial nightmares, and seemingly so hard and cold and indestructible. But yet so plastic and yielding, so vulnerable to rust and decay. and the only way to work with it, transform it, is with fire. there's a metaphor in all of that somewhere, but darned if I know what it is.

I tend to make art the same way as you. just start making something and then figure out the meaning when it was done. some interesting stuff can come out of the subconscious when you don't have a preconceived design you are working on.

so is your chair comfy?

Is the chair comfy? I take it that question is somewhat in a rhetorical vein?

Well they all are actually, comfortable, as that's basically a prerequisite as the juxtaposition is greater if they actually are when one might suppose they aren't.

Illusion, if you wanna do it then do it. If you miss it as much as you say then what you're doing now isn't anywhere near as fun and doin' something that ain't fun, for whatever reason you've devised to determine it needs doin', ain't gonna do you any favours, healthwise, in the long run.
But you know that anyways don't you?

One of the most important things I have learned doing art, or just generally conceiving, starting and finishing stuff, is that we have to concentrate and focus within the moment. I'd had a hard time finishing anything as the grand idea and starting was always alot more fun that pushing on through and finishing stuff. I knew this was a problem so I thought about it and realised I had to leave far more of the working out to chance and the skill to make it up as you go along... and through that learning I've been able to get to this stage.

For these artworks, in the last show, I was guided all the way, big time, and have never had such a totally linked working relationship with Spirit over such a large time frame concerned with one focus... as it were.

Therefore it's been a little confusing why none of the works sold and I've been left somewhat high and dry but just this morning I had a dream that put it all into focus.

I like these two, esp the bottom one. I assume they're wall decorations ~ just wondering about the size. Like door knob size ~ These should 'sell' ~ I'd buy them.

A willingness, the uppermost of your picks Silvergirl, is about 1.5 mtrs high. And the one below it is about 1.2mtrs wide, 1mtr high and about 450mm deep.

You're in the States, Vermont popped into my head, so they'd be anywhere from about 5k to about 7k I would suppose. Depends on the postage.

Yeah the bottom one is a new direction I'm keen to follow up on. Less work, more fun and kinda architectural. Stretched calico over steel rod frames coated with polyester resin.
