Suggestions for exhilarating, life-affirming fiction?
I used to read quite a lot of fiction but these days I only tend to read explicitly spiritual books; I think I've had just about enough of them for the time being, though The stuff I used to read tended to be of the gritty, awfully serious variety (typical guy-stuff - we tend to go for the gloomy books, apparently), but now I'm getting a hankering for some fiction that's all romantic, poetic, and life-affirming - anyone got any suggestions?

Dantes enferno or most notably called, 'The Divine Comedy of Dante'. The intention was fiction/satire. Overall, the literature is a master piece. You can find this in the poetry section at Barns N Noble
We talk about it here last here
