Hello all.

I have wondered if anyone may be interested to read some bits and pieces put to paper half a lifetime ago. Some are the original versions of poems altered and already posted here, others are just as written by a more confident me I think--and probably more naive. petex

Beauty in Words.

If you find beauty in words
do not worship the words.
If you find truth in words
do not worship the words.

Rather worship that within you which sees the beauty
and love that which catches the truth.
For that within you which does these things
is the fountain of truth and beauty;
and so the words which speak to you
are your own unspoken words.

Cold Comfort.

I bought my conscience second hand
From those respected in the land,
Neatly packaged and sold to me
By someone named Legality.

I gave it to another, poor and old,
To protect him from the rain and cold,
And then was terrified to see
What really had been sold to me.

What I had bought was no fine coat
But a silken rope about the throat
And the label which read "Legality"
Had changed--I saw-- to "Profit Me".

Uplifting and then the latter, heart wrenching.

hold on to innocence.

Oh father, mother, why this mess?
Surely now is the time for holiness?
Isn't it time that Christ came back
To show us once more the love we lack?
Where is the cup, and where the plate
From which he drank and from which he ate?

To return my child you must first depart
Yet--" I am with you always" is within your heart.
The cup and the plate for which you seek
Is the power of love and the love of the meek.
We are invited to see and be as one with all creation.
In showing faith in love we accept that invitation.

As a cog, a turning part, we become one with the beating heart
Which powers the unseen frame.
And the tune of right becomes wrong
When love cannot share the song.

With the hunted the hunter turns
With the fallen tree the blade
The oppressor for freedom yearns
And the judge is guilty made.
The walking bones of the child in need
Are the bones in our own hands
Nothing escapes when any bleed,
And as one falls
Who stands?

By lack of faith in love
Sick destruction does endure
As both the sign of illness
And pointer to the cure.

So come my child
While you have still choice
And affliction has not robbed your voice
Hold on, hold on please to innocence.
