Cat Balance & Focus Technique [Great for Leaders]

Balance & Focus

As a leader we need to stand strong in challenging situations and gain confidence to express ourselves from our being. From our root center (Muladhara chakra), to the crown center (Sahashrara chakra) we are aligning ourselves. Balanced and grounded we are able to stand firm in our truth, trusting and with courage. Engaging our navel center (Manipuraka Chakra), we gain confidence and power, moving up to our heart center (Ananhata Chakra), where we stand open, compassionate and accepting. In our throat, we allow our creative individuality to be expressed through the throat center (Vishuddhi Chakra). Moving up with simplicity, overflowing with gratitude. Practicing this asana with our willingness will help us come back to center and remind us of our innate capacity to express the leader in us. Naturally it helps us quiet the mind and reduce the amount of thoughts, bringing us to experience the deep restful awareness.

Vrikasana is also known as ‘tree pose’ in english and is a balancing asana. It improves balance, posture and concentration, while strengthening the ankles and legs. This posture elongates the spine and is helpful for sciatica. This is a great asana to properly distribute the weight evenly throughout the body and encourage walking in alignment.

Vrikasana helps one to improve their sense of mental balance and improve concentration, leading to a clear mind. This poses allow you to move away from the mental stresses and inner chatter to a zone of inner silence. It also brings your awareness in, moving away from too many sense objects, what we call prathyahara in the 8 limbs of Patanjali’s ashtanga yoga. When one masters the senses one can master the mind.

Contraindications:
Low or high blood pressure
Insomnia
Headaches

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Stand in tadasana.

2. Slowly shift your weight on to your right leg and lift your left foot, placing your heel at the root of the right thigh toes pointing downward. Keep the right leg strong and hips facing forward.

3. Sweep the arms above your head. You may join the palms. Alternatively, you may keep the hands in atmanjali mudra (prayer pose) in front of the heart. Breathe deeply, gazing at a point to help keep balance.

4. Gracefully release and repeat on the other side.

Happy Balancing!
Love to you all.
