I think they are out there in the depths of the ocean but do not want to be found. They are afraid of what we may do to them. I wouldn't trust our government if I were in their shoes(tails ��)!!

A young man saw one off the village I stayed in last weekend. It happened in the late nineteenth century, and was reported in the papers.

The mermaid (or it could have been a merman) was seen by a farmer off Linney Head, which is the northern entrance to the Bristol Channel. The sighting was reported in Welsh newspapers of the time.

I hope they're out there, I saw a documentary where different military submarines kept picking up a frequency that were not known to be any sea creature scientists have heard of.

They're a story made up by superstitious sailors, just like sirens or Scylla and charybidis. There's been one or two elaborate phoney things stitched together which are laughably unconvincing. Half fish, half woman, really??
Open minds yes but this is way beyond that isn't it?

I don't think they exist, but I do think the archetype of a mermaid is quite beautiful and symbolic of our emotions. I think of my emotional side a mermaid. She lives within me and swims through the depths of my emotions. I'm a Pisces, so it fits. A mermaid is a goddess. She embodies beauty, knowledge, and the subconscious. Maybe they live in another dimension. Who knows!
