It was marvelous - as with the emotional ending of Titanic, when they show Maximus dying and he's like floating, it gets me! Just burst into tears. (I had a mad crush on the baddie in Titanic, too. And Crowe looks sort of like an old b/f of mine.)

You guys sure were busy posting while I stepped away from my 'puter.
I wanna point out that "Carpe Diem" is from a poem by a Latin author named Quintus Horatius Flaccus (you can wikipedia it).
here's some more movie dialogue:
1) "It's only a flesh wound."
2) "Help Eleanor come home"
3) "I'm sorry I called you a meatloaf, Jack"

since I'm apt to miss out on a lot of activity, here's a few more:
4) "We keep you alive to serve this ship; row well and live."
5) "I'm the keymaster. Are you the gatekeeper?"
6) "Get your stinking paws off me you damned dirty ape"

"Altered States" has been one of my favorite movies for decades ...
"What's whacko about it, Mason? I'm a man in search of his true self. How archetypically American can you get? We're all trying to fulfill ourselves, understand ourselves, get in touch with ourselves, face the reality of ourselves, explore ourselves, expand ourselves. Ever since we dispensed with God we've got nothing but ourselves to explain this meaningless horror of life."
"The Matrix (the 1st one) my literal mind loves to pick apart movies for plot inconsistencies and i just couldn't find any logic flaws in this movie.
"there is no spoon."
"Dead Man" one of only 3 Westerns that i like. it's beautifully done. a work of art. poetry.
"If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is: infinite."

Kaere yes,yes, and yes.
Internal Queries I recognise "If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is: infinite."
as a quote from William Blake. Was it part of Dead Man (1995)?

yep. the main character is named William Blake who is mistaken for the poet by the other main character ... a Native American named "Nobody". the movie has everything. it's funny. it's spiritual. it's horrific. it's poignant.

Intriguing choices Soph...of the 3 I have only seen (and been impressed by) The Matrix.
Now you've whet my appetite to see the other 2 you list! (Which is one of the aims of this thread)
