Mindful Meditation

Is meditation only about closing your eyes and going into no thought zone? Is it not also about being aware of each thought and "let go" of it.

Merely watch whatever arises arise and then sooner or later depart.

You don't even have to close your eyes. I like that phrase- "no thought zone"- some people think that's what it's supposed to be, but not exactly so - maybe Zen type comes close to that. My understanding is that yeah, you allow your thoughts to be as they are, and watch them as they fade and disappear. It's the no-clinging concept that's a key.

Meditation is what starts when you close your eyes. Going to the 'no thought zone' just helps greatly in being able to perceive what happens during meditation. Its kind of like it being easier to hear the sounds of nature when people aren't talking out loud near you.

Staying with being aware of each thought is to avoid meditation by distracting yourself with watching for thoughts. As a beginner that has no 'space' between thoughts, noting thoughts is the most productive thing to do as it eventually leads to fewer 'noisy' thoughts. Eventually there is enough space between thoughts to actually perceive the greater reality.

Thank you Wstein. I like the concept of 'space' between thoughts as we progress to smoother experiences of reality. Thanks.

Positive and negative thoughts.

The problem is to know which thought is bothering you. Curious-One

This is what I learned and so far so good! Hahahaha...

Perfect meditation is perfect concentration on a perfect thing.

Meditation has different forms in which one is aware of and contemplating on every thought that arises;
fixing the mind in a single thought that arises as a chain of thought;
positioning the mind on a stationary thought as just focusing on primordial sound;
A complete emptiness of the mind where the mind itself does not exist or absorbed in the soul.
