Are there any conflict w/ Buddhist mantra to Shiva mantra?

Just wondering if there's any conflict if one chants the Buddhist mantras and also chant the Shiva mantra in different time of the day...like the Om Namah Shivaya?

I've read somewhere that in the story the guardian of Buddha Vajrapani killed Shiva (in different name) coz he is spreading false religion. What do you think of that coz I was a little bit in doubt with the truth of the story...and with that then there's really some conflict in Buddhism and Shivaism.

If in doubt then choose the best mantra for you..

In my experience, regardless of stories, focusing the mind on one particular deity/group of deities works best, anyway.
