Apparently skin damage from sunlight exposure can't be repaired. Yes, the colouration can disappear but the damage has been done.
Also, this is not against ''moderate exposure'', which can be good, but against sunbathing and going for a tan.

Yes, and I think we have morphed into 2 different topics here. One being "no such thing as healthy suntan" and the other being "the benefits of the sun "....
So given we were initially discussing whether there is such a thing as a healthy suntan I would still say everything in moderation.
I can remember a time when people used to douse themselves in cooking oil and lay on tinfoil to "enhance" a tan.
This was in the days where there was no sunscreen and no talk or knowledge about skin cancer .
People used to just lay out in it for hours without any protection in the hope to go a lovely golden brown colour.
At best they went bright red and ended up in hospital.
But guess what ?
They still do it now.
Also, it makes me wonder about people that work outside for a living and have no choice but to be out in the sun I:e. Builders , postmen/ women , gardeners etc.

I walk around outside with shorts on at the house. Can't remember if my skin ever got red but then, during the high of the day, I seek shade.

It doesn't have to get red in order for it to be a health issue, just saying.
White people are just not 'made' for ''tanning''. It's crazy when you think about it, doing exactly what they shouldn't do.
It's like dark skinned people using whitener cream. People wanna get a colour and they hurt themselves in the process....

If climate change is happening wouldn't we be helping ourselves and future generation by helping our bodies to adapt? I know sun tans are not passed on but other factors?

At this rate we will all regress back to monkeys.
At the end of the day we all just need to be sensible.

There is no such thing as a healthy suntan
But there is such thing as a healthy exposure to the sun.
It takes more than the sun to produce cancer conditions in the skin.
Overexposure to the sun can be a trigger, like eating excessive amounts of meat can trigger various cancerous conditions.

Some animals without fur are prone to sunburn, mud coatings protect, some even secrete UV blocking substances on to the skin-I believe pigs, whales, hippos and hammerheads can all get tans.
