The Little Mermaid

(if you know the ORIGINAL story of The Little Mermaid, this short piece is inspired of it)

She found her way towards the sea
Because she could not feel
The pain and hate
Inside her heart
Trailing down her feet

It's a super tragic story compared to the lovely Disney happy ending. Although, Disney does pose an interesting story line, how much of your soul are you willing to sacrifice for love ( Video)

In the original Little Mermaid, she sacrifices and gives all for her lover, but he still does not chose her. She is given the opportunity to kill him and turn herself back to a mermaid, and she refuses. She loves him and turns the knife to herself turning to seafoam.. Shell be back though in 300 years tho

Yes @Horace that one.
@Clover, you analyzed it perfectly, on the dot!

i've read something about sacrifice that has merit.
apparently, an earlier understanding of the word
held that it meant: "to make sacred".
that usage holds spiritual value for humans.
to "surrender [something] to divinity" is a valuable act...
to slaughter life in an effort to appease an indifferent
(or malicious!) God is pure ignorance. [imo]
to devalue/debase oneself cannot increase the
worth of a being, nor benefit the cause of love --
the math of it just doesn't add up.

sorry for philosophizing in your poetry thread Solarian.

I am moved by a great deal of dignity in your poem, Solarian. I feel it at many levels. The Little Mermaid's dissolution into foam in the original story is a haunting one. Cheering for your version of her who could not feel the pain and hate.

No need to be sorry. It's a human thing...an imperfect thing, as humans are. It'll never add up, lol

Thank you :') I have a love interest for many gruesome before-Disney originals

Cinderella's a good one!
