Adyashanti: Distorting Stories, Ideas, and Beliefs.

Zen speaks about living without putting the attention on thought. Adyashanti also points out that focusing on one's stories, ideas, and beliefs also falls under this category of thought or mind.

You can give your attention to what is present. In fact, that is a Zen goal because if you are not aware of the actual, of what is present, you can't transcend it. If you don't recognize you are focusing on thoughts or things from your mind, you don't have the choice to not focus on them. Once you are aware of what is, you have the option to pay attention to it or not. To focus on it or not. You can't stop doing something you are doing unless you are aware or conscious you are doing it.

Increasing or expanding one's awareness of the self, or of what is, as the all encompassing actual, is a big part of mindfulness.
