It's one of the best kept secrets outside of the northeast! From the Adirondack Park Agency (APA):
"The boundary of the Park encompasses approximately 6 million acres, 48 percent of which belongs to all the people of New York State and is constitutionally protected to remain “forever wild” forest preserve. The remaining 52 percent is private land which includes settlements, farms, timber lands, businesses, homes and camps."
With 46 peaks over 4,000', roughly 3,000 lakes and ponds and about 23,000 miles of rivers, streams and brooks it's a literal paradise for people with an inclination for the outdoors.
Some Adirondack trivia.
