Jesus doesn't say this man has to believe in any particular thing, but that he just has to be good. So if I say to you that being good is what God desires most, am I wrong?
There are many other examples where God judges based on this
If believing Jesus died for me makes me good then what is wrong with this, but if saying this is the only way then you have to ignore all the places where God and Jesus talks about a person being able to be good.
That's fine. We will find out one day who got it right! That's the beauty of this, we have a choice what to believe about God and one day we will know. There will always be a great variety of opinions on this subject till then.

Bro, you should read the Bible. Jesus had two main messages- love and faith.
Love:
“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Faith and His sacrifice so that we may be saved:

Regarding doing good things, Jesus and the apostles teach that good deeds are the fruit of salvation, the result of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and no one is saved by works.
Romans 3:28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness
Romans 10:9-10
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Jesus teaches that no man is good and thus cannot be save by good works
Mark 10:18
"Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone.
Romans 3:23
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Don't forget that the apostles were inspired by the Holy Spirit and taught what Jesus taught them. Scripture needs to be understood in context.
