But he did wait for an answer. And the answer came unanimously that Jesus should be crucified for making himself out to be the Son of God. Pilate did not want Jesus to die but he was too much of a coward to stand up to the Jews who clamored for Jesus's crucifixion.

Pilate feared the truth, that Jesus was in fact the Son of God, which is why he did not want Jesus to die. But even more he feared to betray the Jews, who clamored for Jesus' death. I think his mistake was asking the Jews to show Jesus mercy, because then he gave away his own power to himself set Jesus free.

Their many reasons.
The most obvious one is he probably didn't have a lot of patience.
Another, even if Jesus had told him the truth Pilate in his arrogance wouldn't believe it.
Another, Pilate was probably under pressure he had to make a decision fast to get the Jews off his back.
I like Jesus silence though. It shows a lot of character.
It shows his absolute confidence that his gonna raise his body from the dead.
It shows his fearlessness. |
